Tampere University Scholarships

The Tampere University Scholarships cover 100% of the tuition fees for the entire program duration:

  • Three years for Bachelor’s degrees
  • Two years for Master’s degrees
  • Five years for combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degree

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a fee-paying international student applying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at Tampere University together or Tampere University of Applied Sciences
  • Bachelors degree applicants must fulfill he conditions for admission into the degree of their choice and must have completed a recognized high school level of education
  • If you are applying for a Master’s degree programme, you must posses a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution
  • You Bachelors degree must correspond to at least 180 ECTS (European credits) or to three years of full-time study
  • Applicants must have a good command of the English language for academic purposes and must submit language certificates
  • You must demonstrate excellent performance in your previous academic experience
  • You are not required to pay the tuition fee if you are: 
    • an EU/EEA citizen 
    • equivalent to EU/EEA citizen (i.e. citizen of Switzerland)
    • British citizen who has entered Finland before 1 January 2021 and registered, or applied to register, the right to residence in Finland in accordance with the withdrawal agreement  Article 50.
    • already reside in Finland (a continuous A residence permit granted on other grounds than studies or a permanent P/P-EU residence permit), or have an EU Blue Card issued in Finland. The exempting residence permit must be valid on 1 August / 1 January i.e. when the study right commences. Please note that a residence permit in another EU/EEA country does not exempt you from the tuition fee.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants can demonstrate proficiency through the following tests:

  • TOEFL iBT: 92 overall, with no section below 20
  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with no section below 5.5
  • PTE Academic: 62 overall, with no section below 42
  • C1 Advanced (CAE): Grade C
  • C2 Proficiency (CPE): Grade C1
  • National Certificate of Language Proficiency in English (YKI-tutkinto): Level 5 in all subtests

Alternatively, proficiency can be shown through previous education in English-speaking countries or specific English-taught degrees.

Benefits of the Scholarships

Scholarships Available During Studies

  • Tampere University Tuition Fee Scholarship:
    • Fee-paying students at Tampere University can apply for the tuition fee scholarship, which covers 50% of annual tuition fees. To qualify, students must complete at least 55 credits in an academic year. This scholarship is awarded after the first year of studies and is valid for one year at a time, based on the application. It is important to note that scholarships covering 100% of tuition fees are not available during the course of studies.
  • Tampere University International Advancement Scholarship:
    • The International Advancement Scholarship is designed to reward fee-paying students who make significant progress in their studies. It is available annually to students paying full or partial tuition fees, with the exception of those on a 100% tuition fee scholarship.
    • Students can qualify for the International Advancement Scholarship by completing at least 60 credits of their degree within the academic year or by graduating within the standard time frame (three years for a bachelor’s degree and two years for a master’s degree). The scholarship amounts to €1500 and is paid in the autumn semester following the academic year in question or upon graduation. Students can earn this scholarship multiple times during the standard duration of their degree(s). The scholarship is available for students admitted to Tampere University from 2021 onwards.

Application Process

  •  Bachelor’s programmes
    • To apply for the Tampere University tuition fee scholarship, use the same online application at Studyinfo.fi that you use for admission. Indicate your interest in the scholarship and include a scholarship application letter (max 3000 characters) in the form. You will also need to rank your preferred Tampere University study options.
    • For Bachelor’s programs, only one scholarship offer will be made per applicant, based on the highest-ranked study option where you qualify. You may be admitted to multiple programs, but only receive one scholarship offer. Early bird offers are available for programs where you do not receive a scholarship.
    • Scholarships are awarded based on the application and scholarship letter to the most motivated and successful applicants. In the scholarship letter, explain your interest and motivation, how your skills align with the program, and how the studies fit your career goals.
  •  Master’s programmes
    • You will apply for Tampere University Scholarships and Finland scholarships with the same online application you use to apply for admission at Studyinfo.fi. To apply for the scholarships, you will be asked to indicate in your application that you wish to apply for a scholarship and choose which scholarships you wish to apply for. In addition, you will be asked to include in your motivation letter a brief summary (~150 words) of the academic merits which support your merit-based scholarship application.

To be considered for a Tampere University tuition fee scholarship, you must apply for the scholarship as part of your application for admission during the application period for admission. The application period begins on 3 January at 8.00 (UTC+2) and ends on 17 January at 15.00 (UTC+2).
